Necrophobia

  • Swana van der Helm / Fine Art / Enschede

‘My pictures depict people’s sense of self. People see a contrast between themselves as perceptive beings and everything around them. There is no constant; there’s only action and reaction between individuals and with individuals as a part of nature. The time that a human being, or more specifically, the body, has, is limited by death. But for souls that are connected, time disappears, as does the fear of death. And yet, that fear plays an important role in human existence. Should we therefore believe in God and/or a purpose for life? Does the soul live forever? There are many questions in my work and no definitive answers. This gives the opportunity to see the dialogue between the artwork and the subject. It is an invitation to observe, to gain clarity—to be.’
